 Like many High schools, South Boston High produces and sells year books to their students. South Boston High was not happy with their national yearbook publisher. There were long contracts, lots of black and white, and slow turn around times. The process to print and bind these yearbooks often took 3-4 months since they were manufactured using offset printing. With such a long process, many of the activities that are run later in the school year were left out of the book. In addition, South Boston High felt the cost to print the yearbooks was simply too expensive.  With digital printing, MicroPRINT was able to significantly drop the cost to produce the yearbook. South Boston High was able to produce yearbooks in full color from front cover to back cover. The printing and binding turn-around time dropped from 3-4 months to 1 month. Now they were able to include the spring activities in their yearbooks. Their plays, sporting events and proms were covered in the books. With more activities included, South Boston High sold more yearbooks. In addition, MicroPRINT made the yearbook development process easier for the staff. By receiving proofs throughout the development process, South Boston High was able to monitor the progress and give students on the yearbook committee feedback. With the proofs, the yearbook committee was able to create excitement throughout the student body, which maximized student participation and increased yearbook circulation.  Before we found MicroPRINT, we were working with the national publishers to produce our school yearbooks. The national publishers required long term contracts and long turn around times. Their school yearbooks were also expensive considering that most of the printing was in black and white. We were surprised to learn that MicroPRINT could give us color from front to back for less money per book. MicroPRINT also made it easy for us. We ran out of time pulling the yearbooks together and MicroPRINT scanned in hundreds of pictures to help us make our deadline. They also gave us layout templates on a CD and our staff just dropped in the pictures and typed in the copy. |
